Our courses aim to develop teaching skills in physical education without neglecting one’s own athletic skills.

No aptitude test is required to study physical education as an elective subject. However, a certain degree of enjoying physical activity and sports should be inherent.

Modules

05-GSD-SPO01/02/03: Understanding/experiencing/teaching sports

  • Module 1 – Understanding Sports (10 LP)
     
  • The module consists of a lecture and three practice-oriented courses compulsory for all students. The basics of sports science, especially the movement and training sciences as well as sports biology oriented at primary school specifics form the key content. Moreover, practical knowledge is taught on the application of active games, and forms of play with regard to the general objectives of physical education. The courses “Swimming” and “Artistic Gymnastics” serve the acquisition of demonstration and methodical teaching skills.
  • It is recommended to attend the module during the 2nd and 3rd semester. The module culminates in a written examination (90 min.), as well as a practical examination in a chosen sport.

  • Module 2 – Experiencing Sports (5 LP)

    The module consists of two practical courses compulsory for all students. The acquisition of demonstration and methodical teaching skills of school-specific knowledge with regard to the areas "Track and field athletics" and "Gymnastics/Dance education" are the modules key contents.
  •  

    The module is run during summer term only, and recommended to 4th semester students. The successful participation of module 1 is required. The module culminates in a practical examination in a chosen sport.

  • Module 3 – Teaching PE (10 LP)

    The module consists of a seminar, and two practical courses compulsory for all students. It focuses on the didactics and methodology of physical education in primary schools. Topics of movement promotion and interdisciplinary topics are also addressed. The teaching of sports games follows a comprehensive and integrative approach.
  • The module is recommended for the 6th and 7th semester. The successful participation of module 2 is required. A project thesis in one of the courses concludes the module.

05-GSD-SPO04/05: Understanding/teaching sports

  • Module 4 – Understanding sports

    The module consists of a lecture and four practice-oriented courses compulsory for all students. The basics of sports science, especially the movement and training sciences as well as sports biology oriented at primary school specifics, form the key content. Moreover, practical knowledge is taught on the application of active games, and forms of play with regard to the general objectives of physical education. The courses “Track and field athletics” and “Artistic Gymnastics” serve the acquisition of demonstration and methodical teaching skills. The methodology of how to teach beginner swim lessons is an additional priority in the “Swimming” course.

  • Module 5 – Teaching PE

Module 05-008-0007 - Teaching movement, sport and play (10 LP)

The module consists of a seminar and two exercises for all students. The content focuses on the didactics and methodology of physical education in elementary school. The independent and goal-oriented planning of physical education, taking into account heterogeneity, is the focus of the courses. The role of the teacher is to be critically questioned and reflected upon. Special attention is paid to the recognition of interdisciplinary fields of reference and their methodical design and implementation.

The module is recommended for the 7th semester. The module is completed with a project work.
