She has been a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Education since 2020. She has been studying the B.A. Philosophy at UL since 2019. Her research focuses on primary school students' mental models of climate change, climate ethics, climate justice, responsibility, transformation, ESD, transdisciplinarity, school gardening and philosophising with children. For the discussion of her dissertation project, she received the Best of DACH Young Academics Award in the Round Table category in 2022. She conducted research at the PH Bern from February to April 2022. She is a founding member of the FAK "ESD in Higher Education" and an alumna in the "t.e.a.m. Promovendinnenförderprogramm" of the UL. In her dissertation, Alexandria Krug researches mental models of primary school pupils on climate change. Specific and core research interests are the climate ethics, justice theory and responsibility ethics issues that arise in the discourse regarding the consequences, actions and measures in the climate change problem and how students take a position on this, justify options and argumentatively evaluate action and behavior on climate change. At the center of this transdisciplinary dissertation are the main research areas

  •    mental models
  •    climate ethics, climate justice and discourses of responsibility
  •    questions of environmental awareness and critical-constructive educational

process design.

This project conducts holistic research into educational theory discourses that enrich didactic and ESD-oriented research. It deals with transformative and emancipatory educational theories. She also focuses on philosophizing with children and its theoretical and didactic premises. In terms of research methodology, she uses a qualitative, explorative-descriptive setting and deals with qualitative content analysis as well as qualitative interviews, concept maps, concept cartoons and dialectical-analytical approaches. In addition to the dialog-consensus method and the structure-laying technique, philosophical forms of discussion represent key methodological points.

In her teaching, Alexandria Krug pursues a discursive approach to didactics and content. The core topics are philosophizing with children (in primary School Didactics in Science Education and Technology) and its methodological-didactic forms as well as the educational-theoretical premises of this teaching principle. In addition to subject-specific didactic focuses, subject-specific philosophical disciplines and theories play a central role. The content is always synergistically combined with didactic approaches, theories and methods. Learning environments and settings that are committed to a cognitive-activating and moderate-constructivist concept of learning are introduced in teaching, developed and reflected on by students themselves. Discourse and reflection skills in a critical-constructive dialog are core principles of their teaching. Furthermore, the school garden in all its practical, historical and environmental dimensions is a teaching focus. It is also addressed and researched integratively as a place of discourse for philosophizing. The concepts of ESD and transformative education as well as a correspondingly adaptive lesson development form a transdisciplinary network in their teaching. The use of diverse media is constantly thought through and reflected upon. Through the discourse on educational theories and practical educational concepts, students should be able to gain their own transformative experiences.
