The project ILeA plus Deutsch deals with the creation, testing and standardisation of tasks for learning process accompanying diagnostics and support in the subject German in primary school for the state of Brandenburg.

About the research project

The research project ILeA plus was realised in the years 2016 to 2020 on behalf of the state of Brandenburg (project duration 01.06.2016 to 30.09.2020). The aim was to revise, redesign and test a digitalised version of the individual learning level analyses ILeA in German. In addition, the task packages for grades 1, 3 and 5 were standardised and validated. The ILeA plus task packages A to D for grades 1 to 6 have been available to primary schools in the state of Brandenburg in digital form free of charge since the beginning of the 2019/2020 school year and can be accessed via weBBschule, the central online administration system of the state of Brandenburg.

Interest in the individual learning level analysis ILeA plus has risen steadily since its publication. With the school year 2020/21, the procedure will also be used in Berlin. As the newest federal state, Thuringia now wants to start using it. A cooperation agreement to this effect was signed by Brandenburg's Education Minister Britta Ernst. Saxony-Anhalt, Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and Baden-Württemberg have already expressed their interest.

Conceptually, ILeA plus Deutsch is based on the ideas of formative assessment as a building block of inclusive teaching culture. At the same time, the framework curricula of the state of Brandenburg represent a central curricular and critical reference. Closely linked to the digitalised implementation and evaluation is the provision of digitalised and result-related support recommendations. In this way, teachers are to be supported in the dovetailing of diagnostics and support in the context of pedagogical diagnostics accompanying the learning process.

The new task formats were tested in 11 Brandenburg primary schools with 1101 pupils in the 2017/2018 school year and standardised and validated in a representative sample of 80 primary schools with over 900 pupils per grade level in the 2018/2019 school year. The third edition of the ILeA plus manual is now available and can be downloaded from the following website: "ILeA plus - Manual for Teachers"

In the last phase of the project, an already tested parallel version was standardised and validated for task package A, which can be used as a supplement before the winter holidays to determine individual learning progress in the first half of the school year and to make adapted support suggestions.

The aim of the additional project is to test the test-theoretical quality criteria as well as to empirically obtain grade-specific reference values for the final test versions for the measurement of early literacy for grade 1 at the school half-year (package A-II), which emerged as a result of subpackage 2 of the original project ILeAplus.
