Special needs/ inclusicve education (German: ASP) focusses on a fundamental location of special needs/ inclusive education both historically and internationally-comparatively. A special focus us the cultivation of a critically differentiated understanding of inclusion. This understanding offers opportunities for constant reflection and is accompanied by offers to cultivate an assumption of a conception of man. The module ASP2000 this basic knowledge will be expanded on the independent elaboration of an inclusion-pedagogically oriented project.

Studies content

In this section you will find information on the study content of ASP.

ASP1000: Integration/ inclusion and Special Needs Education

  • Recommended for the 1st semester of study
  • Duration: 1 semester
  • Module offered every winter semester
  • Examination: Written exam at the end of the semester
  • 2 seminars, 1 lecture

ASP2000: Interdisciplinary Learning in Inclusive Educational Settings

  • Recommended for 6th-7th semester
  • Duration: 2 semesters
  • Module offered every summer semester
  • Examination: Project work
  • Project seminar consisting of 4 hours per week (split into 2 seminars), 1 lecture

In the field of special needs education/ inclusive education, theoretical and empirical thesis in the field of qualitative social research are supervised. Currently, Jana Zehle, Julia Matusche or Julia Zimmer are in charge of the supervision.

Students can choose from a variety of topics related to the field of special needs and inclusive education. The following topics are suggested:

  • Dis/Ability Studies (in Education) and Disability History
  • Ableism and Ableism Research
  • Intersectionality and intersectionality research
  • Heterogeneity, Variety and Diversity (research)
  • Participatory, emancipatory and inclusive research
  • Hegemony theory and Philosophy of practice
  • Theory of recognition
  • Participation
  • Historical comparative studies of disability and exclusion
  • Inclusive education from the perspective of critical educational science, critical pedagogy and/or poststructuralist arguments
  • Biographical research and life history research
  • Subjectivation 
  • Civil rights movements (historical and contemporary)
  • Power and violence (e.g., institutional and socia-political and/or educational or socio-political fields etc.)
  • Inclusion and exclusion (e.g. in specific institutions or in specific social and/or educational or socio-political fields etc.)
  • Inclusive didactics
  • Migration Research and Refugee Studies in the Context of Inclusive Education

For the ASP 1000 students, tutorials are offered in winter semester. The tutorial focusses on scientific work aswell as deepening the contents of the lectures and seminars.

Tutorial A starts October 10 and ends December 19, 2023. It takes place weekly on Tuesdays at 1.15 pm.
Tutorial B starts November 9, 2023 and ends January 18, 2024. It takes place weekly on Thrsdays at 3.15 pm.

There are no tutorials for ASP 2000.
