Karla Spendrin conducts research on various didactic and methodological topics:

Didactic competencies for the e-learning and blended learning programmes: Her dissertation project (https://fob.uni-leipzig.de/public/details/forschungsprojekt/2253) is concerned with (a) the question of which didactic competencies are required for planning, implementing and developing e-learning and blended learning programmes, and (b) the methodological question of how such competency requirements can be theoretically and empirically identified.

Methodological questions of qualitative-reconstructive teaching research: Karla Spendrin is engaged in projects of the Chair of General Didactics and Pedagogy of Secondary Education, which, for example, deal with the question of how to deal with the essential normativity of general didactic theories in empirical research (https://fob.uni-leipzig.de/public/details/forschungsprojekt/4034). Methodological questions of qualitative-reconstructive teaching research are also dealt with in international collaborations (https://fob.uni-leipzig.de/public/details/forschungsprojekt/4623).

Individualization and collectivisation in the classroom: The central question here is how certain individuals and communities are established in classroom interaction (https://fob.uni-leipzig.de/public/details/forschungsprojekt/4615).

The main focus here is on the integration of a structured knowledge acquisition with competences in case related reflection of teaching. Since the summer semester of 2020, this module has been offered on the basis of the Social Hypertext Reader (SHRIMP), a project that, in addition to promoting the interlinking of specific seminar content, also aims to develop competencies in the field of digital teaching and learning (https://fob.uni-leipzig.de/public/details/forschungsprojekt/4871). The use of the Social Hypertext Reader was accompanied by a research-oriented project seminar in the summer semester 2020.

In the context of international development cooperation projects in the field of teacher education and teaching development, Karla Spendrin also offers project seminars on this topic.

Another focus in teaching and training are regularly offered research colloquia as part of the supervision of scientific theses in the field of qualitative classroom research in an intercultural context.
