Assessment literacy for teaching

Assessment literacy is one of the core competences of professional teacher action (Beck & Troitschanskaia, 2011; Helmke 2012; Langfeldt, 2006) and is therefore a curricular focus in teacher education (Kultusministerkonferenz [KMK], 2014). So far, however, little is known about how these can be built up systematically and sustainably in teacher training. Assessment literacy for teachers are modelled as a multidimensional construct beyond mere accuracy of judgement (Aufschnaiter et al., 2015; DeLuca, LaPointe-McEwan & Luhanga, 2016; Hesse & Latzko, 2011).

Aims

The project builds on the earlier studies examining systematic learning pathways for the training of diagnostic competences during teacher training (Hesse, 2014; Hesse & Latzko, 2011; Latzko, 2014). These studies were able to show that learning gains can be achieved especially in the areas of theory-based procedures and differentiated methodological knowledge (Gottlebe, Hesse & Latzko, 2015). Within the framework of the project, these findings are to be expanded and put into practice. One focus is on the development of reflective skills as a facet of diagnostic competences (Aufschnaiter et al., 2015). The project continues to investigate the diagnostic competences of student teachers and teachers in the field of school-based performance assessment and their promotion.
