Information and contacts for the School Practical Studies modules 05-GSD-SPS01 and 05-GSD-SPS02.

Courses, practical trainings and course of the module

The module is usually taken in the 4th and 5th semester of the state examination program "Lehramt an Grundschulen". It consists of the following three components.

Seminar 1 => Seminar 2 and weekly practical training => Block practical training

Objectives

After completing the module, students will be able to,

  • observe, document and analyse teaching and learning processes in primary school in a theory-based, differentiated manner,
  • plan and implement lessons independently and purposefully,
  • theoretically justify the subject-specific selection and didactic preparation of lessons they have planned themselves,
  • critically reflect on their own teaching and draw conclusions,
  • document the preparation, planning, implementation and reflection of their own lessons in a comprehensible and concise manner.

Seminar 1: Preparation for work in primary school practice

>> Offered only in the summer semester.

The practical components of the module are prepared in the seminary.

Seminar 2 (incl. weekly practical training, SPS II): Designing primary school lessons and theory-based reflection on experiences from primary school practice

>> Only offered in the winter semester.

In the weekly practical training, the students in groups of 5 design two hours of teaching in a primary school class each week in differentiated teaching forms, taking selected focal points into account. They apply didactic knowledge and reflect on their own development potential. They independently plan teaching units, carry them out and discuss the process and results afterwards.

Block practical training SPS IV

The students observe and analyse school reality and especially aspects of school development. They record teaching and learning processes in a differentiated and theory-based manner under the conditions of work in primary schools. They independently plan teaching units in all subjects studied, carry them out and reflect on processes and results. In this or the next block practical training in module 05-GSD-SPS02, the students focus on the observation and design of initial teaching. In the reflection on the block practical training, they perceive their own strengths and identify potentials that they want to develop in the following placements. You can find more information about the block practical here.

Module examination

The examination performance consists of an practical report, which is to be written during the block practical training and contains an analysis of the conditions of the internship school, a systematic observation, a detailed lesson plan including a reflection on the implementation in the subject of factual lessons general science and an overall reflection on the practical training. You can find more information here.

Courses, practical trainings and course of the module

The module School Practical Studies 2 (SPS02) is usually taken in the 6th semester of the state examination program "Teaching profession for primary schools". Students of the core subjects Ethics and English (B) attend it in the 7th semester. It consists of the following two components.

Seminare => Block practical training

Objectives

After completing the module, the students are able to,

  • observe and analyse teaching and learning processes in primary school with special consideration of heterogeneity in a theory-based differentiated way,
  • independently and purposefully plan and implement lessons with special consideration of heterogeneity,
  • justify their lesson planning with regard to heterogeneity and individual learning paths in a theoretically sound manner,
  • critically reflect on their own teaching with regard to the individual learning development of the individual child and to draw conclusions.

Seminar: Theory-guided reflection and planning of lessons

In the seminar, heterogeneity as well as possibilities of differentiation and individualization are discussed. The field of tension between closed, teacher-centred and open, pupil-centred teaching will be particularly examined. Function, effect and criticism of forms of open teaching (station learning, weekly plan, workshop teaching...) are the subject of discussion.

Block practical training SPS V

In this practical training, students observe and analyze school reality, now with a focus on differentiation and individualization of learning processes. They independently plan lessons or blocks of lessons in all subjects studied, design their implementation and reflect on processes and results. In doing so, they attempt to make their lessons more student-centered in various dimensions. In this or the block practical training SPS IV in module 05-GSD-SPS01, students focus on the observation and design of beginning lessons.  In a reflection on this last block practical training within the study program, they perceive their own strengths and identify development potentials for the traineeship. You can find more information about the block internship here.

Module examination

The examination consists of a term paper.
